April's ART

Literally one day before Australia locked down (and so many of the arts and industries we love went online), I made it to the NGV in Melbourne for the Keith Haring and Jean-Michel Basquiat exhibition due to be running to 13 April. Haring and Basquiat produced such a rich body of work pushing back against the rising tide of commercialism and consumerism in the 1980s. I loved this untitled work best. As the reality and fear around AIDS reached its peak in the late 80s, Haring produced this beautiful painting showing humanity bleeding and scarred but not broken; lifting arms around one another and towards a hopeful future.
