I don’t know about you but in the space of a few weeks parts of my life have been decimated. Wiped out. Plans, finances and emotions have been crushed.

In a conversation with a friend recently she wisely brought to my attention the curious attributes of the olive tree… Did you know that the root system of the olive tree is so robust that it’s capable of regenerating itself even when the above-ground structure of the tree is destroyed by frost, fire or disease? In Tuscany in 1985 a severe frost destroyed many productive and aged olive trees, ruining the livelihoods of many farmers. However when new shoots appeared in the spring and the dead wood was removed, they soon became new fruit-producing trees.

Maybe a new thing is being cultivated and produced in us during this time? The great pressure, the crushing weight of circumstances and the uncertainty is perhaps fertile ground? Perhaps this process will lead to the promise of new fruit in abundance? A process that sees us become more creative, more innovative, more generous, more kind, more productive, more connected and more empathic. An outcome we could not have had if we had not experienced the crush. The olive branch is often a symbol of abundance and peace. I’m hoping for this. For me and for us. - Hailey. Xx
